The Wheelock Early Childhood Special Education program is designed to meet the needs of children ages 21/2 to 5 years who are delayed in one or more of the following areas; learning, communication, motor and social / emotional development.  We also serve children who have difficulties with vision, hearing and sensory integration.  Wheelock also offers an inclusion opportunity, which is a joint effort between the Early Childhood Special Education and Pre-K programs.

All Wheelock students attend a half-day program.  The morning session times are 10:20 am - 12:50 pm.  The afternoon session times are 1:50 pm - 4:20 pm.  The number of days the child attends is dependent on the child's individual needs.  Parent involvement is a critical component of the Wheelock Program.

The students of Wheelock Early Childhood Special Education represents a diverse population made-up of 4% American Indian/Alaskan Native, 11% Asain/Pacific Islander, 14% Hispanic, 22% African American (not Hispanic) and 43% Caucasian (not Hispanic).

As a learning community, we believe that not only do children learn through play and meaningful activities, but they also gain self confidence through their experiences with others.  Together with parents and other members of our learning community we strive to build skills for lifelong learning.
